So today's about Sunshine
Well shit, it's already technically Friday, but let's establish my first post with the backdrop of my Thursday. Since i'm tired, it's going to involve me and a good ol' talk about a film I saw. Sunshine, directed by Danny "Slumdog and Trainspotting" Boyle, it's a rendezvous with thrills and deep psychological stuntin' in which a group of 8 astronauts and scientists from around the world, like a freaking space-Olympics, have a 7 year mission in which they must shoot a giant nuclear explosive attached to the front of their giant, Manhattan sized ship into the heart of the sun, thus restarting everyone's favorite star. Apart from the sheer awesomeness that is the idea of people trying to blow up a fucking start to re-ignite it, the film is primarily a sweet fuckin rollercoaster of breakdowns, ambiguous hate/love and psychological plight. The special effects are indeed surreal, and amazingly well done. Regardless of the actual possibility of these effects (like not being instantly charred by the sun, you know, being a couple thousand miles away) the bottom line is that the film itself is poised on showing the viewer the complexities of people living together. Not just that, but really really intelligent scientist types, the kind you wouldn't think could get angry, get super fucking explosive and at times a little psychotic. Without spoiling it, it's just a really great flick, and recommend it to anyone who likes veteran international actors(as well as that non-veteran Johnny Blaze from the fantastic four movies) as well as people getting messed up by the sun and the various ways that shit can fuck your shit up. Niceee.
